Brief History of Reiju Ceremony

usui.jpeg

Over the past century, Usui Reiki has been utilized to protect health from environmental changes, pollution, and diseases, serving as a path to health and happiness. In the next hundred years, we are moving from an age of materialism to an age of the heart, shifting focus from physical health to mental well-being, and it is essential to use Reiki to make each person's life more meaningful.

The original purpose of Usui Reiki was to use the energy of love and harmony from the universe to elevate oneself and to spread it to many people, sharing joy. To reaffirm this origin, a New Year Reiju Ceremony was held every January with all Shihan (masters) gathering, which was considered the most important event at the start of the year during the time of Usui Sensei.

In Gendai Reiki, following the practices of Usui Sensei's time, the New Year Reijukai Ceremony has been continued by Gendai Reiki Masters as an important New Year event since 2005. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 ceremony was cancelled, making this year's event the 20th anniversary. Since 2022, alongside the New Year Reiju Ceremony conducted by Gendai Reiki Masters, a New Year Koryukai open to everyone and a New Year Dinner have been held. Additionally, beyond the annual New Year event, the New Year Reiju Ceremony Committee, acting as the Office for the Prayer for Universal Peace, now sends out prayers for global peace at the new moon and full moon. On July 21, its 100th anniversary was celebrated with over 200 participants from 13 countries worldwide, transcending Reiki lineages to send out the energy of love and harmony.

We look forward to a large participation of Gendai Reiki practitioners from both domestic and international locations, regardless of their level of training, in the 2025 New Year event.
